Synergising climate and biodiversity agendas is an imperative challenge for the century

The restoration of ecosystems is crucial to achieving climate mitigation targets, and this is reflected in the recent global and EU ambitions for nature restoration. As a major contributor to biodiversity loss, agriculture in the EU must shift to restore agroecosystems so that they can provide benefits for biodiversity and climate. Carbon farming can help achieve this goal if standards integrate adequate safeguards and ensure net positive biodiversity impacts. 

Agreement on CBAM: A long way to go

In December 2022, the Parliament and the Council reached agreement on the CBAM and the reform of the EU ETS. While these new instruments constitute an unprecedented move in the emissions reduction effort, much remains to be decided and even more remains to be done.

COP15 | Our last chance to reverse biodiversity loss

COP15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity is taking place in Montreal from 9 to 17 December therefore with only two weeks for the negotiators to secure a historic agreement to safeguard biodiversity globally.  

The survival of our planet is at stake at COP15

Governments have shown less political will to support biodiversity conservation targets than for climate targets, but the two are actually interdependent and should be tackled together to reach our 1.5°C goal. COP15 is a crucial opportunity for them to adopt a bold Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework and achieve a nature-positive world by 2030.
