Podcast | COP26: Main overview and outcomes

The 26th edition of the United Nations Climate Change Conference ended in Glasgow on 13 November. In the fallout of the negotiations, Michael Nicholson, Head of UK Environmental Policy at IEEP, gathered experts from two member organisations of IEEP’s Think Sustainable Europe network to try and give an overview of what COP26 meant for global action against climate change.

This podcast was organised by IEEP in collaboration with Ecologic Institute and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), two members of IEEP’s pan-Europan network of think tanks, Think Sustainable Europe. Arne Riedel is a senior fellow at Ecologic Institute and an expert on climate, energy international climate negotiations. Philip Gass is Lead, Transitions in the IISD Energy Program, and works on fiscal policy for GHG mitigation, green economy, circular economy and just transitions.

Taking stock of the mixed success of the negotiations, the participants touched upon the impact that a “loss and damage facility” would have on North-South relations and debated on the credibility of the different announcements and pledges, among other topics.
