Jason Anderson’s report on climate change and natural disasters, written for the European Parliament’s Environment Committee, was discussed in a joint public hearing of the Committees of the Environment, Regional development, and Agriculture on Monday, 20 March. The event was entitled “Natural disasters: How should Europe respond?” and featured speeches by Commissioner Dimas, Jacqueline McGlade of the EEA, and several others. IEEP’s report highlighted the increased likelihood of certain kinds of extreme weather events to be expected from climate change, and called for a review of the adequacy of Europe’s preparedness in light of changing conditions.
