After adopting 17 universal Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, the United Nations have recently agreed on a set of 230 indicators to monitor progress towards these goals for the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. What was this process like? Fabiola Riccardini from the Italian Institute for Statistics was directly involved. She provides insights into the challenges of defining suitable indicators and the opportunities ahead for the international community.
