Celebrating 50 years of IEEP with Marianne Kettunen

To celebrate our first 50 years of work, throughout 2026, we will feature messages, reflections and videos from colleagues, friends, allies and supporters of IEEP. In this video, our Board Vice-chair, Marianne Kettunen, reflects on the role of IEEP in shaping EU environmental policy as a first-line ambassador.

Marianne Kettunen is a policy expert and advisor with twenty years of experience at the science-policy interface for sustainable development. She currently leads the circular economy and biodiversity workstream at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, bringing together science, policy and practice to drive systemic change.

Over her career, Marianne has worked with UN bodies, the European Commission, national governments, and international NGOs and think tanks, leading multi-stakeholder initiatives and publishing widely on climate, biodiversity, circular economy and sustainable trade. She is an experienced speaker, facilitator and mentor, and serves on the boards of IEEP, TULIP Consulting and Working for the Wild, and as a member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas. Her previous roles include establishing and leading the Programme on Global Challenges and SDGs at IEEP (Brussels), and contributing to the launch of the Forum on Trade, Environment & the SDGs (TESS) in Geneva.

“Over the course of its history, IEEP has analysed, tracked and proofed, mainstreamed, fitness checked and advised countless EU policies and as a result, IEEP’s handprint is visible across the EU environmental policy and beyond.”
