We are delighted to welcome the Institute of International and European Affairs into the Think Sustainable Europe family.
The Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) is an Irish international affairs think-tank, with membership drawn from the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society. IIEA’s mission is to promote understanding of the European and geopolitical context for decision-making by Ireland’s policymakers, organisations, and individuals. They achieve this by providing context, insight and analysis of key European and international policy trends, acting as a trusted space for independent, unbiased analysis and informed engagement. IEEA’s primary research policy areas include EU Affairs, Economics, Security and Defence, Digital and Climate and Energy.
With the urgent need for evidence-based decision making in Europe, in 2019 IEEP created Think Sustainable Europe, the network of leading sustainability think tanks to provide policymakers across the continent with sound, science-based analysis and recommendations.
“We are pleased to welcome the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) to the Think Sustainable Europe network. The IIEA’s expertise in climate policy, energy, and agriculture will be important in supporting the network work and driving evidence-based research forward. With Ireland set to assume the Council Presidency in the second half of 2026, we look forward to working together on many initiatives, including Think2030.”
– Antoine Oger, IEEP Executive Director
The IIEA has recently established a new stream of research into sustainable agriculture, via its ‘Pathways‘ project, and aims to expand its work on climate and energy. In this regard, the IIEA hopes to exchange knowledge, expertise and best practice with peer think tanks via the TSE network, engage in joint work with European partners, enrich the climate debate in Ireland, and disseminate more widely the Irish perspective on the challenges and opportunities associated with achieving carbon neutrality.
“The IIEA is very much looking forward to being an active member of Think Sustainable Europe and working alongside this community of leading European experts committed to shaping science-based, practical solutions for a more sustainable future. We recognise the immense value of learning from one another – sharing evidence, experience and best practice across borders to inform stronger, more effective policymaking. As we expand our work on climate, energy and sustainable agriculture, we look forward to contributing an informed Irish perspective to the discussion and to collaborating closely with our partners across the TSE network.”
– Alex White SC, IIEA Director General
