Twenty years after the pivotal 1992 Rio Earth Summit, a follow-up United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20) is being organized to renew political commitment for sustainable development, assess progress in meeting previously agreed commitments, and address new challenges.
In the lead-up to this important international event, IEEP and the Institute for European Studies (IES) are organizing an Environmental Policy Forum on ‘The EU on the road to Rio+20: towards a sustainable outcome?’ on 23 June 2011 in Brussels. This event aims to shed light on the EU’s preparations for the Conference, its position and role at the Conference and some of the general expectations related to the possible outcomes of the Rio+20 process.
