Louis Durrant

Lead - Climate Resilience and Risk Governance

Louis joined IEEP in 2024 and is the Topic Lead for Climate Resilience and Risk Governance. He brings over 10 years of experience at the intersection of academia, policy, and practice, with a strong commitment to advancing a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable society. His work is driven by the need to strengthen societal preparedness and support competitive, transformational approaches to climate and environmental challenges.

In his current role, Louis leads IEEP’s work on climate resilience and risk governance, shaping research agendas, guiding project delivery, and contributing to strategic engagement with policymakers and stakeholders. His expertise spans a wide range of environmental and social issues, including climate change, governance, ecology, resilience, sustainability, disaster risk management, and land use and planning.

Louis specializes in qualitative research, facilitating expert discussions, workshops, and interviews, and designing questionnaires to explore complex topics in a scientifically robust manner. He places particular emphasis on strengthening the links between research, policy, and practice to ensure relevance and impact.

Before joining IEEP, Louis was a researcher and lecturer at several European universities, where he worked at the forefront of climate change and disaster risk management governance. He continues to publish research articles, policy papers, and reports, maintaining strong ties with the research community across Europe.

Louis holds a PhD in Planning from Birmingham City University and an MSc in Environmental Sustainability. A native English speaker, he also speaks French.
