Event | Making our economies fit for the people and the planet

The Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and the Green European Foundation (GEF) are organising the launch event of the political brief for a European Wellbeing Economy.

When: 4 March 10:00-12:30 – the debate will be followed by a networking lunch

Where: Topos Parlement, Brussels

Geopolitical tensions and inequality between and within countries shed light on the need for a socially just transition where no one is left behind. The EU has taken significant steps towards a just and green transition with the EU Green Deal, yet contradictions persist. While wellbeing is mentioned in EU documents, a comprehensive plan for prioritising human and planetary wellbeing in decision-making is lacking.

In the attempt to transition to a society compatible with human needs and our planet’s resources, new economic approaches are emerging within different academic disciplines, civil society, and institutions. The knowledge community project for a wellbeing economy in the EU aims to address this challenge by developing ideas and political proposals to put the EU’s ambition to “work towards an integrated framework for wellbeing” into practice.

Our political brief is the result of a one-year-long exchange within a knowledge community of more than 60 experts that aims to map the main challenges and provide recommendations to inspire European institutions in the delivery of their ambition to work towards the well-being of their people.
