This event will provide a deeper understanding of the external impacts of the EU’s environmental policies on countries in the Global South, with a particular focus on the African continent. With EU and international stakeholders and policymakers contributing to the discussion, we will explore how to foster a more cooperative and inclusive approach to environmental policy-making and climate diplomacy.

We will first present the results of two complementary surveys: the European Green Deal Barometer 2025, an expert survey identifying the spillovers of those Green Deal policies that have an external dimension, and the Global Green Attitudes poll, measuring citizens’ support for green policy around the world.  We will then present the final report of a project focusing on how the EU can ensure coherence on its trade, investment and sustainability policies, focusing on the needs of developing countries, particularly the Global South, while mitigating any negative spillover effects.

This event will promote actionable solutions by facilitating dialogue between EU decision-makers and Global South representatives on how to better include the perspectives of countries outside the EU in the implementation process of EU environmental measures.
