Marianne Kettunen

Member of IEEP AISBL Board

Marianne Kettunen is a policy expert and advisor with 20 years of experience on the science-policy interface for sustainable development. She works across different sustainability agendas in Europe and globally. Her signature skill is the ability to establish links and identify synergies between policy areas, driving impact through meaningful and long-lasting partnerships.

 

During her career Marianne has worked on multiple climate and environmental issues, cooperating with a range of international governmental and non-governmental organisations including UN organisations, the European Commission and Parliament, national governments, and European and international think tanks and NGOs. She has led numerous multi-stakeholder initiatives and projects aimed at supporting sustainable policy- and decision-making in Europe and globally. She is an experienced speaker, convener and facilitator, and an author of numerous policy-oriented publications linked to climate, biodiversity and circular economy, with the latest focus on sustainable trade. She also regularly mentors the next generations of sustainability experts.

 

Marianne holds a MSc from the University of Turku, Finland, with focus on biodiversity research and development cooperation. She is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) providing expertise on the socio-economic benefits of biodiversity and nature-based solution. She is also a Member of Board at the Thin Green Line Foundation UK, a charity focused on raising awareness on and improving the professionalisation of the global ranger workforce. Marianne’s previous merits include establishing and leading the Programme on Global Challenges and SDGs at IEEP (Brussels) and being a pioneering policy expert and advisor in initiating the Forum on Trade, Environment & the SDGs (TESS) (Geneva).
